"ep, it’s quite a mouthful to spit out when one is asking for white wine. Yet this obscure grape variety (Picpoul) originally brought to the Loire by the Dutch to make spirits and eventually finding its way to the Languedoc, is one of our most consistent white items since we started working with it a couple vintages ago.
It’s hard to explain but easy to understand. At this kind of price, this clean, bright, steely white has few peers. Fresh, delicate, laced with minerals, it’s an easy winner against the kind of overcropped Pinot Grigios, clumsy, sweet, cobbled together Chardonnays, and undernourished Sauv. Blancs that permeate this category. Bright and racy by itself and an easy match for foods, it has become a mainstay around here. . . . . . "
