1.5 stars "Color: bright; Nose: discreet; Aromas: herbal; Acidity: supple; Sweetness: dry; Body: light-bodied; Finish: medium; Overall: slighly unbalanced; This wine, coming from one of the Williamette Valley's "big name" vineyards, was a disappointment. Weak, watery, unbalanced. Not a good example of a pinot noir and certainly not worth $44. Better values out there."

" Wine Advocate 94 Wine Advocate - The 2008 Pinot Noir Black Cap Reserve is an equal parts blend of Bishop's Creek and Estate fruit. It displays an arresting nose of Asian spices, incense, floral notes, underbrush, black cherry, and black raspberry. Already complex on the palate, it possesses outstanding volume, concentration, and an overall elegant personality. It, too, should have a drinking window extending from 2013 to 2023, perhaps longer. - Jay Miller Avalon - Black Cap Pinot noir 08 unfolds over hours and days. Complex and captivating, Black Cap has become one of most anticipated releases from Oregon. The 08 opens with a lush display of red and black raspberries mixing with morel mushroom. The aromas more than hint at what's to come in the satiny flavors: yummy raspberries and dark cherries build, picking up a thread of sweet huckleberry while vibrant acidity maintains balance. Hints of sage, mint, and violet permeate the finish, and the tasty berries linger. Very ageable, and highly recommended for the cellar. Black Cap 08 deftly matches density and concentration with sophistication and elegance. I finished the bottle with the quintessential Oregon pairing: seared Chinook salmon with a strawberry-duck reduction. - Marcus" Best 2013-2023
